1. The individual has an aquired brain injury (or where stated is a relative and/or carer or someone with an acquired brain injury).
Aquired brain injury is essentially damage to the living brain tissue, which is non-degenerative and occurring since birth. Common causes include CVA/stroke, viruses, tumour, bleeding or a lack of blood to the brain as well as open or closed head injuries due to road traffic accidents, physical assaults, sports, recreational and work related injuries etc.,
2. Is at least 18 years old.
3. Clearly states a wish/willingness to attend the service.
4. Is able safely to undertake the activity and would benefit from doing so.
The activity should be of interest and suitable
The individual is able to cope with social integration
The indivdual is medically ready to attend
5. Is able to travel the distance to and from the activity venue.
6. Has manageble behaviour and can self medicate.
An individual with assesed behavioural problems may be accepted on a 4 week trial basis, at the discretion of Headway Black Country.
Where an individual's behaviour puts themselves and or others at risk, the referral will be deemed unsuitable.
Where an individual requires constant one to one support to manage inappropriate behaviour, then their own Personal Care Worker must accompany them whilst attending.
